The Ornament Design

Kitty Tamer pays homage to old-time circus entertainment.  He is a bow-legged black and white cat, dressed as the circus ring master-of-ceremonies, the person who introduces all the acts.  He wears a cinch-waisted shiny blue jacket edged in gold and shiny black boots.  His shiny black tail curls upward behind his body. His cartoon-like face displays long whiskers and a big smile. Of course, he wields a long-handled whip should an unruly lion try to break ranks!

This is the second vintage interpretation of of the classic “Kitty Tamer”. A red-coated version was introduced in 2020.

History

Kitty Tamer and Quick Draw, two jumbo Italian ornaments from the De Carlini workshop, were introduced as part of the 1994 & 1995 Christopher Radko Collection.  Smaller versions of each cartoon character were original De Carlini styles.  Christopher Radko super-sized them to 11".  Because of their delicate nature and large size, breakage in shipping was significant.  And then, not everyone wants an 11" ornament on the tree!  These two factors led to a scarcity of these original 1994 versions.

Soffieria De Carlini is responding to collector requests, reprising this popular design from the 1960s and 1970s in a 6" version.  It pays homage to to Christopher Radko’s 1994 “jumbo" version.
