Soffieria De Carlini, Cuban Lady in Traditional Costume
Cuban music and dance styles were heavily influenced by African music and rhythms. Both have evolved as a fusion of European and African influences. Danzón, rumba, salsa, cha-cha, and mambo are all popular Cuban dances.
The De Carlini Workshop has interpreted this classic traditional Cuban folk dancer wearing a full skirted costume and turban. The white blouse has wide fluffy sleeves. The skirt has three gathered layers of colorful silk fabric in red, yellow and navy blue. Her turban is turquoise silk ornamented with red silk roses. She wears two strands of beads around her neck and carries a straw basket of roses.
