Sputnik 1 was the world's first artificial Earth satellite. The Soviet Union launched it into an elliptical low Earth orbit on 4 October 1957. It was a 58 cm (23 in) diameter polished metal sphere, with four external radio antennas to broadcast radio pulses. With the launch, the Soviets also kick-started the worldÕs fascination with outer space, other worlds and aliens.
Thomas Glenn Holidays captures the retro Mid-Century modern vibe with this traditionally molded Santa. Black bedazzled "sputniks" cover his robe. The "fur" trim is created with a crusty white glitter. His beard is a fine snowy-white glitter. He carries a St. Nicholas style staff in a lacquer tan shade. The Polish artisans have created a porcelain-like complexion for this elegant Santa figure.
